Math 1112

some things cannot be counted

The goal is to build a foundation of mathematical tools and experiences to help think about health information.  The booklets below form a subset of the material will cover, but will give you a good picture of what sorts of mathematical thinking and which topics you will come across in the course.

The materials will be supplemented with in class exercises,  a webapp,  and other presentations and exercises in OneNote through which you will practice and demonstrate mastery of these topics.

The booklets were last used in the fall of 2023 and I’ll be updating them here and there over the month of September 2024.  Answers will be posted throughout the semester once you have had a chance to work through the material.

The course is taught using a mastery based learning approach.  This means that there are a series of core concepts that must be mastered to pass the course.  The good news is that you will have multiple attempts to demonstrate mastery in those concepts.

Enjoy,

Taras
